Sustainability

We respect our origins, care for the present, and build a more responsible tomorrow.

Nessentis

Our commitments

A roadmap toward sustainability.

At Nessentis, we understand that sustainability requires a dual approach. On one hand, it means continuously improving our environmental and social performance. On the other, it involves driving our entire value chain to promote best practices in the agricultural production of the raw materials we use. The agri-food sector, and the cocoa industry in particular, is especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change. That’s why we are moving toward a model that protects the natural resources our future depends on. Building our sustainability strategy has required identifying the impacts, risks, and opportunities of our activity as a starting point for deploying a coherent and effective action plan. This analysis, carried out in accordance with leading European standards and recommendations, was based on a double materiality assessment involving suppliers, clients, investors, employees, industry associations, public administrations, and NGOs.

Goals

A commitment that spans environment, people, and governance.

At Nessentis, we view sustainability as a global commitment expressed through three key areas of action. In the environmental sphere, our goal is to reduce the impact of our activity through decarbonization, water use optimization, responsible waste management, and the implementation of green and traceable purchasing criteria. In the social sphere, we aim to generate a positive impact on people: from promoting a rich and diverse internal culture to an unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of our employees, as well as actively supporting local communities and fostering leadership in cocoa-origin countries. Finally, our purpose is to ensure that sustainability is embedded in the group’s management through transparency, ongoing communication, and the exploration of new certifications and business models that strengthen our positive impact.

Lines of action

Steps toward a responsible future.

Environment
Decarbonization

Decarbonization

  • We calculate our carbon footprint and are currently defining a decarbonization plan that encompasses both our production activities and supply processes. At the same time, we continue to strengthen control over our energy consumption and identify critical points in our processes, which we will address through actions such as contracting certified green energy, incorporating renewable sources, and progressively upgrading our machinery with more efficient equipment.
Water

Water

  • We have begun the process of calculating our water footprint and developing a plan to optimize water use across all our operations.
Waste

Waste

  • We have launched an improvement plan for waste management in our offices and production centers, with a particular focus on reducing non-recoverable waste.
Purchasing and traceability

Purchasing and traceability

  • We have defined a green and responsible purchasing policy that covers both raw materials and auxiliary supplies.
Social
Internal culture

Internal culture

  • We define, promote, and communicate good environmental practices in our offices and production centers, and we are developing an internal sustainability training program tailored to each of our teams.
Employee well-being

Employee well-being

  • We will introduce satisfaction surveys to gather employee feedback, continuing our commitment to occupational health and safety. In origin countries, we will analyze wage gaps and equality in our production centers in Ivory Coast, and promote local leadership through targeted training support.
Local Communities

Local Communities

  • We support local community projects, either independently or in collaboration with partner organizations, and work with universities and research centers to promote knowledge and education, as well as with industry associations and clusters. In origin countries, we will assess the feasibility of increasing direct sourcing of raw materials through cooperatives and local exporters.
Governance
Sustainability governance

Sustainability governance

  • We will define and consolidate a sustainability governance system within the group. We will assess the feasibility and relevance of pursuing new sustainability certifications, develop a communication plan that includes the sustainability report as a tool for progress and transparency, and explore the viability of new business models as alternatives to our current operations.

Certifications and partnerships

Our commitment backed by international standards.

We operate under the main globally recognized sustainability certifications, which ensure both product responsibility and ethical practices throughout the supply chain. In addition, we are members of the United Nations Global Compact and the World Cocoa Foundation, initiatives that promote fair income for farmers, combat child labor, and fight deforestation.
